January mosaic

My creation

Well, I struggled for inspiration this month, and also found myself not wanting to bother uploading and blogging my pics. Hopefully next month will be better! Lots of waxing and waning enthusiasm so far.

January 31: patriotism

IMG_6500

I was worried I might break my streak by not getting an abused flag pic for this month, but I noticed this on my way home. This is my office building.

It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
(from the US Flag Laws and Regulations)

January 30: stormy

IMG_6489

Storm clouds in Brooklyn.

January 29: huh?

IMG_6486

Back to work. This sign in the lobby of my office building cracks me up. Where should one enter??

Tuesday, January 29

January 28: sunrise

IMG_6474

Got up early to head back north.

January 27: snowman

IMG_6468

After a rousing snowball fight, we built this little snowman and put it on my brother's car.

January 26: chill

IMG_6462

Gotta keep your drink cold while you're hot-tubbing.

January 25: angels

IMG_6383

We climbed out of the hot tub to go roll in the snow! From left to right, these angels were made by me, Scott, and Marisa. Mom made one too, but in a different spot. Here it is:

January 23: fence

IMG_6363

Sean and I took a walk in the snow. Those are our footprints! Cold day, but very pretty. I like the composition of this shot.

January 22: ladybug

IMG_6343

Back from vacation, and catching up on my photos from the past week. All of them were taken in Maryland. This is a puzzle that my niece put together. I had a classic "it's 11pm and I haven't taken any pics today" moment.

Monday, January 21

January 21: classic

IMG_6313

Pacman is totally a classic.

January 20: bag

IMG_6292

Mama's got a brand new bag! Went to B&H Photo to pick this up. That store is amazing. Marisa suggested I take a pic of my new bag for Project 365, so I did!

January 19: Isidoro

IMG_6286

IMG_6291

We bought Isidoro on a trip to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. He is a painted seed pod. Unfortunately, the pod is splitting open and the paint is peeling off, so we are bidding a fond farewell to Isidoro.

January 18: steam?

IMG_6278

Rain water collects in the train tracks here, and this morning it was evaporating as the sun hit it, then immediately condensing again because the air was so cold. It looked a little like steam. My photo didn't quite capture it, but I like the composition all the same.

January 17: 20

January 16: naked

IMG_6266

Peeled the labels off my bottle.

I have been suffering a dearth of inspiration for my pictures lately. I feel like I am kind of phoning it in. Hopefully a change of scenery will shake me out of my rut.

January 13: please!

IMG_6222

Ahhhhh city life.

January 12: vote

IMG_6213

Do it.

January 11: cheers

IMG_6211

Went out for happy hour after work. This is the only pic I took all day.

January 10: 8

IMG_6203a

I always wonder if people do this kind of stuff on purpose, or if it's really a mistake that they never even notice. Either way, it tickles me.

January 9: faded

IMG_6194

A two-fer today. I took these photos at a church building near my office. I didn't adjust the colors at all. I can't choose which I like best.

Tuesday, January 8

January 8: Janey

IMG_6181

I'm annoyed that I didn't get the focus right in this one, but oh well.

January 7: hibiscus

IMG_6164

Kate sent me this hibiscus charm for Christmas! So pretty. Thanks Kate!

January 6: peel

IMG_6144

I had such a hard time choosing a pic today! Zoe was posing for me this morning and I got some really cute pictures of her. But I settled on this orange peel spiral, mainly because I used an extreme Zoe close-up as my picture of the day back in November.

Here are a couple of good ones from Zoe's photo shoot today.

January 5: notes

IMG_6122

IMG_6124

A two-fer today. These two notes were scribbled on either end of the same bill. Who uses five dollar bills as scratch paper?! I think the handwriting is the same for the two notes too. Weirdo.

Friday, January 4

January 4: koi

IMG_6103

Outdoor koi pond up the street from my house. It's iced over. I think the hose left that snakey pattern in the ice. I don't know how the fish survive the winter, but they do.

Uneven shoes

Just last weekend I bought some new shoes. Wearing them for the first time today, I discovered that the tops of the shoes are not cut exactly the same. The right one comes farther up my foot than the left one does. Weird!

IMG_6113

Good thing I only paid $5 for them.

Also, some jerk stepped on my toes this morning and scuffed my brand new shoes. Frigging jerks in the friggin subway.

IMG_6089a

Also also, yes, I am aware the socks don't quite match the shoes. Gimme a break, it's Friday and it's cold.

Thursday, January 3

January 3: peace

IMG_6082

If you look carefully, you'll see that she's holding up a peace sign.

Wednesday, January 2

January 2: pattern

IMG_6066

A painted ceramic tile from Turkey.

January 1: party animal

Zoe wishes us all a very Happy New Year. Right after she bites my face off for making her wear this silly hat. More New Year's pics here.

Happy New Year!!
