April mosaic

My creation

Interesting month. Despite almost forgetting to take pictures on several days, overall I am pretty pleased with my April results.

April 30: patriotism

Just barely got my flag abuse photo for this month. This house is really something else. The resident (we call him the landscape artist) decorates his front fence and yard with what most of us would call garbage: empty wrappers, jars, boxes and cans, as well as torn up articles of clothing, magazine clippings, etc. I sense some sort of psychosis at work.

Aaaaaand I am almost all caught up now! Just need to post my April mosaic. :)

April 29: Rusty

IMG_0571

Rusty has staked his claim!

Stayed home sick from work today, boo. :(

April 28: rain

IMG_0567

Not sure which is sadder, the poor lonesome balloon or the discardrd umbrella.

Despite the rainy weather, Happy Birthday Blake!!

April 27: smooth(er)

IMG_0559

One chair is sanded and ready for primer and paint. I should have worn a dust mask while sanding. My throat is really irritated.

April 26: fisheye

IMG_0563

Faux mosaics in my kitchen. Not feeling too well, so I did an inside shot.

April 25: veins

IMG_0558

Not sure whether this leaf is too happy, but it sure looks interesting. I just moved the hibiscus plants back outside, I think the leaves might be bleaching from the sudden increase in sunlight. Hopefully they'll adjust soon.

April 24: freebies

Part of NYC's safety campaign.

April 23: fans

IMG_0534

Love the shape and color of these new leaves.

April 22: unhappy

IMG_0529

I took a personal day today to start on my chair project! When I came home from Lowe's, this is what I found. Apparently there was a fly in the house terrorizing the dogs. The poor things.

Dining chair redo, part 1

Yay, I have a new project! I scavenged some dining chairs from the sidewalk this morning (yay trash day) and plan to redo them. Here are the before pics.

Full chair.

I plan to remove the seats first, then sand, prime and paint the frames. Then I will replace the foam in the seats and recover them with new fabric. I am thinking chocolate brown paint for the frames, with a topcoat of polyurethane to make them glossy and shiny. And I like this fabric for the seat covers, from jcarolinecreative.com:

Thoughts?

April 21: upholstery

IMG_0526

This is the existing fabric on the dining chairs I rescued this morning. Redoing them is my new project. :)

April 20: guacamole

IMG_0510

Used my molcajete for the first time today! Made a fantastic batch of guacamole. :) Now I just need a name for this little guy. Any suggestions?

April 19: hearts

IMG_0498

Lovely little flowers, like hearts on a string.

Circle of life

So Sean and I have closed the loop of scavenging in NYC. Today I rescued four dining chairs from their ignominious curbside wait for the garbage truck. I plan to redo them and will post my progress on my project blog. Be sure to check it out!

A tulip two-fer! These were both so pretty that I decided to post them both.

April 17: bubbles

This guy was having fun!

Happy Birthday, Dad!!

April 16: cascade

IMG_0473

More pretty flowers! Hey, it's spring, what can I say?

April 15: Woolworth

IMG_0464

In honor of tax day, a pic of the lovely Woolworth Building, aka the cathedral of capitalism.

April 14: dolphin

IMG_0458

My mom made this stained glass panel for me. It hangs in our kitchen window.

April 13: hiiiiiiiiiiyah!

IMG_0453

Meet Nigel Nakatano, aka Dancing Hamster of Awesomeness. He was a gift from Marisa. He wields those nunchuks like a pro while dancing to "Kung Fu Fighting". See that glint in his eye? That comes from knowing he's the baddest hamster in Brooklyn. Ain't even playin'. Word.

April 12: jeepin'

IMG_0447a

Where was this stuff when *I* was a kid?? What a great toy. And my niece is an excellent driver!

April 11: blooming

IMG_0426

More tiny flowers. They are so pretty, especially after the gloomy gray weather we've had lately.

April 10: raindrops

IMG_0418

Really like this pic. These tiny flowers are so delicate you can see right through them.

April 9: springing

IMG_0413

Yup, spring is springing! Every day a few new flowers open up. Finally!! I wasn't the only one who appreciated the little daffodils...

IMG_0417

April 8: close call

IMG_0409

This was the closest I have come yet to completely forgetting to take a pic. I was actually in bed, about to fall asleep, before I suddenly realized once again I hadn't taken any pics. Third time this month (see previous close calls here and here). Gotta get it together!

April 7: heart

IMG_0397

Some of the leaves on this plant fuse together into little heart shapes. Like the limoncello pic, it was about 11pm when I realized I hadn't taken any pics this day. Oops again.

April 6: cheerful

IMG_0386

These pretty daffodils belong to the people next door. Such a bright yellow!

April 5: Zoe

IMG_0382

aka "why I am not an illustrator". This looks more like a warthog than Zoe. But oh well. We met some friends for dinner, and the tabletops at the restaurant were painted with chalkboard paint so you could draw on them. This was my, uh, masterpiece.

April 4: king

IMG_0372

Toad Hall again. It's becoming our Friday evening stop-off between work and home.

April 3: do not

IMG_0371

This sticker is on the inside of the subway doors. The stickers usually read "Do not hold doors". Some clever people have modified them, as seen in this photo. I've also seen a modified one that said "Do not smell bad". And I saw a pic of a modified one that read "Do not bomb Iraq".

Since I started project365, every day I try to remember to check out all the stickers to see if any have been modified so I could take a pic for the project. I am so happy I finally got one!

April 2: digestif

IMG_0368

We were about to enjoy a little limoncello after dinner when I realized I hadn't taken any pics for this day yet. Oops!

April 1: gold

IMG_0355

Should have taken a "foolish" pic but the sunset was too pretty to ignore.
