June mosaic

My creation

This month has been a total blur. Wowie.

June 30: vase

IMG_1175

Sean bought me this vase for Christmas one year. Handmade in Brooklyn!

June 29: delayed

IMG_1162

My flight home was cancelled, so I got bumped to a later flight, which was then delayed... you know the story.

June 28: dc

IMG_1144

Went to our nation's capital this weekend. It was my last chance for a flag mistreatment photo this month, so I had to go with it. But I have several better pics from the trip here. Here are a couple of my faves:

June 27: pastel

IMG_1036

Pretty colors.

June 26: wd-50

One of my colleagues has been talking about this restaurant for ages, and he finally convinced me to go there for lunch. Beautiful food. And pretty tasty too!

IMG_1031

Starter: popcorn soup with shrimp rounds, balsamic jicama slices, chive oil and some kind of micro greens.

IMG_1032

Entree: wagyu beef with fleur de sel, coffee gnocchi, and caramelized pickled onions with coconut cream and asian greens.

IMG_1034

Dessert: cappuccino ice cream with cinnamon crunch, soft chocolate and tortilla strips.

We also got small dishes between courses and afterwards. Quite an experience!

June 25: green guy

IMG_1028

One of Zoe's favorite toys. She tries to pull his pants down. Deplorable.

June 24: gathering

IMG_1022

Storm clouds outside my office building.

June 23: reluctant

IMG_1017

Zoe really didn't want to model for me, but it was like 11pm and I was about to drift off to sleep when I suddenly realized I hadn't taken any pictures yet that day. So, reluctance notwithstanding, here's Zoe!

June 22: summer

IMG_1012

Summer in Brooklyn means block parties! Everyone moves their cars off the street and they open the fire hydrant. Sometimes people grill out. They actually had pony rides at this block party. Crazy.

June 21: things!

IMG_1003

Sean and I did the Great Urban Race today! We had a ton of fun. Costumes are recommended for the race, so we dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Cat in the Hat. One of the things we had to do on the race was find this memorial to John Lennon in Central Park and get a photo of both us in front of it flashing a peace sign. So there you go! More pictures from the race here.

June 20: hibiscus

IMG_0989

My first hibiscus flowers this season!

(Notice anything furry in the background?)

June 19: strawberry sequel

IMG_0985

The afore-mentioned home-made strawberry ice cream.

Another shot:

June 18: splat

Copy of IMG_0977

Odd decorations on a building in Brooklyn.

June 17: Taz

IMG_0976

JAZZ HANDS! This is one of two giant Taz stuffed toys we won at Dave & Buster's yesterday. Check out these fangs:

IMG_0974

June 16: shoot

IMG_0960

Today was our company's summer outing, and we went to Dave & Buster's, which is like an arcade. These two are playing some shoot-em-up game. The facial expressions are hilarious!

June 15: strawberries

IMG_0950

So yummy! These are macerating before being made into ice cream.

June 14: rainy

IMG_0933

Rainy day.

June 13: carving

IMG_0920

Not the best shot, but it's the only one I took today.

June 12: long

IMG_0915

Gorgeous light. Lovely day.

June 11: railing

IMG_0911

The heat finally broke, so I could stay outside long enough to snap a couple of pics. I just love the evening light in summer. So pretty.

June 10: Roebling

IMG_0909

Again, the haze is for real, not a problem with my camera. Last day of the heat wave. I was sitting in a meeting when I noticed this building out the window of our conference room. Roebling caught my attention since it's the name of the engineers who built the Brooklyn Bridge, one of my very favorite structures in NYC.

June 9: hot

IMG_0902

Day 3 of the heat wave. UGH. I have this strange compulsion to know what the temperature is all the time. So we have a couple of thermometers in the house. This one is an indoor/outdoor model. The temp outside is 94.1 F. Yikes.

IMG_0905

This indoor-only thermometer is in our bedroom: 94.3 F. At 616pm. Disgusting.

I realize these are crappy pics, but it was just too hot to do much.

June 8: green

IMG_0895

We drove to Valley Green PA (outside Philly) to visit some friends and meet their new daughter. Hot hot day, but the green makes it seem a little cooler.

June 7: bubble

IMG_0879

HEAT WAVE! The first of four days of temps in the mid-90s. Yikes. The people who live downstairs from us got out the kiddie pool and the bubbles to cool off. That haze is for real, it isn't just the photo.

June 6: oN.

IMG_0874

TGIF! Back at Toad Hall after work for some decompression.

June 5: bruise

IMG_0859

Somehow acquired this giant purple bruise on my pinky finger. No idea how.

June 4: gray

IMG_0845

Not so nice today. Same beach, different morning. This pic is in color, not B&W. It's really that monochromatic.

I mentioned already that I wasn't impressed with Trump Plaza. The rooms were old, small and not terribly clean. The second room I was in (after switching because of the smoke problem) had the oldest working alarm clock I think I've ever seen in a hotel. Nothing says high class like faux wood grain.

IMG_0849

June 3: blue

IMG_0826

Gorgeous day.I love to be near the ocean.

June 2: Trump

IMG_0825

Traveled to Atlantic City today for a conference. I stayed at Trump Plaza and was fairly unimpressed. My nonsmoking room reeked of smoke and I had to request a different room. The wallpaper was patched and peeling in places, and the ceiling was crumbling. The carpet was stained, and there was inch-thick dust on the mini-fridge (which was making a noise like a dying goose) and behind the armoire. All in all, not terribly nice.

June 1: junk

IMG_0811

Bunch o' junk out on the sidewalk on trash day.

Also have a runner-up photo for today:

IMG_0813

I'm not entirely happy with either, so I figured I would post both. (Somehow that made more sense in my head.)
